Dog rescues Thai baby buried alive by teenage mother
A disabled dog has been hailed a hero for rescuing a newborn baby who was believed to have been buried alive and left for dead by his teenage mother.
The newborn is believed to have been abandoned in northern Thailand by his 15-year-old mother, who tried to hide the pregnancy from her parents, according to local news agency Khao Sod.
Ping Pong, who could only fully use three of its legs, started barking and digging in a field in Ban Nong Kham village, alerting his owner Usa Nisaikha.
The man said his six-year-old discovered a baby’s leg sticking out of the earth.
Locals are said to have rushed the newborn to the hospital, where he was cleaned, examined and given a full health bill.
The mother of the newborn is said to have confessed to burying her child and has been charged with child abandonment and attempted murder, according to Thai reports.
Chum Phuang police officer Panuwat Puttakam told the Bangkok Post that the teenage mother is currently under the care of her parents and a psychologist.
The baby’s grandparents decided to raise the baby.
