The first images have been released of Clare O’Neill and her daughter Eliza, who have been reunited in hospital after their terrifying carjacking ordeal .

Clare was returning home to Marie Drive, in the Acocks Green area of ​​Birmingham, shortly after 4pm yesterday when two men demanded the keys to her Audi A3.

Despite the distraught mother’s frantic efforts to get her daughter out of the car, the thieves drove off with four-week-old Eliza still inside.

The carjacking took place outside Clare O’Neill’s home on Marie Drive, Acocks Green (Caters)

Luckily, Eliza was found by an ambulance crew at a medical center in Small Heath 45 minutes later, still in her car seat.

Clare is recovering at Heartlands Hospital from leg injuries she suffered during the burglary, and West Midlands Police are continuing to search for the two men.

Detective Inspector Jim Munro, from force CID, said: “This incident has shocked the whole of our force area and we will leave no stone unturned in our search for the offenders.

“We have a team of officers trawling through CCTV and speaking to residents in Marie Drive, as well as fast-tracking forensic analysis of the baby seat.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen the grey Audi A3 S-line with registration number BJ66 YLV since yesterday afternoon to contact us.

“We are delighted that mother and baby have been reunited and we wish Clare a speedy recovery.”
