Nước mắt: Lola bật khóc cùng mẹ Jamie, cố gắng an ủi bà

The story of missing Willow gripped the U.S after she was found on a Manhattan street more than 1,600 miles from home. Fortunately she had been chipped as a kitten and the owners could be traced.

But no one could understand how Willow managed to get from her home in Colorado to the streets of New York – even though she had five years to make the journey.

However the mystery was solved when a man came forward to claim that Willow – known to him as Molly – was flown on an aeroplane.

Jamie and Chris Squires were ‘shocked’ to hear where Willow had been found.

The Squires and their three children travelled from their home in Boulder, Colorado to be reunited with Willow at the Hilton New York hotel last night.

Willow is set to fly back to Boulder on Sunday with her family. She will join her former housemate, a yellow Labrador named Roscoe, and a new one, an English mastiff called Zoe.

Mrs Squires said of her disappearance in Colorado: ‘To be honest, there are tons of coyotes around, and owls. She was just a little thing, five and a half pounds.

‘We put out the “Lost Cat” posters and the Craigslist thing, but we actually thought she’d been eaten by coyotes.’

The couple were ‘astounded’ when they got a call from Animal Care & Control in New York City, saying she had been found on East 20th Street.

Mrs Squires added that her husband told her not to tell their children until they were sure it was indeed Willow that had been found.

‘Then we saw the picture, and it was Willow,’ she said. ‘It’s been so long.’

Animal Care & Control Executive Director Julie Bank said a scanner found the microchip that led to the Squires family.

Mrs Squires says she hopes the unlikely reunion will prompt more people to put microchips in their pets.
