Ấm áp trên giường vào một buổi tối gần đây, nhân viên cứu hộ chó Mississippi Lisa Reams nhận thấy điện thoại của cô sáng lên. Tin nhắn là từ một công dân có liên quan, người đã nhận thấy một hoang run rẩy và một mình trên một chiếc ghế dài đổ nát bị bỏ rơi bên cạnh một bãi rác gần đó.
Ngay khi nhìn thấy bức ảnh, Reams đã không ngần ngại. Cô nhảy ngay ra khỏi giường và đi đến hiện trường trong bộ đồ ngủ.
“Trái tim tôi tan vỡ vì tôi biết bên ngoài trời lạnh như thế nào”, Reams nói với The Dodo. “Tôi sẽ không nghỉ ngơi cho đến khi tôi có cô ấy an toàn và ấm áp.”
Pulling up in her truck, Reams quickly locked eyes with the pup. The dog, later named Cammi, lifted her head and wagged her tail, eager for affection.
“She was shaking and shivering so badly,” Reams said. “She let me love on her and get a leash on. She walked to my truck and loaded up. Once in the truck, she nestled up in a big blanket I had on the back seat, and the seat warmers were on. She was so relaxed and slept all the way home.”
Safe at last, 1-and-a-half-year-old Cammi hasn’t had any trouble bonding with her rescuers.
“She is adapting brilliantly to the good life,” NYC Second Chance Rescue director of social media Rachel Larkin told The Dodo. “She loves to sun herself, run around outside and melt into any affection she is shown.”
Soon, Cammi will travel to New York, where she’ll be adoptable through NYC Second Chance Rescue. Reams is hopeful that this sweet pup will find her forever home soon. But if not, she knows Cammi’s future is secured no matter what.
“Paws crossed, she’ll be adopted and land in her forever home,” Larkin said. “But if she hasn’t been adopted, she’ll head right to a foster home to continue her journey.”
